GS1 UK win team of the year at the Memcom Excellence Awards

The award recognises excellence in teamwork, demonstrating how GS1 UK’s collaborative, inclusive and strategic approach has driven growth with purpose and greater value to the totality of their membership.

GS1 UK has won team of the year and has been highly commended in three other categories at the Memcom Excellence Awards.

The award was given in recognition of GS1 UK’s transformational three-year strategy; ‘Growth with purpose’, and the organisations’ relentless focus on the needs of their 59,000 strong membership.

Developed collaboratively by wide range of GS1 UK’s internal teams and supervisory board, the strategy was designed to deliver sustainable growth to support members, UK plc and wider society.

Since launching in 2021 it has united the business with a reinvigorated purpose, new brand position and values developed through member feedback.

Built on four strategic pillars - community engagement, voice and visibility, standards and solutions and operational excellence – it has proved to be a robust framework for the delivery of GS1 UK’s core objectives and has facilitated cross-functional working with over 90 per cent of associated KPIs and milestones already being delivered.

GS1 UK’s award-winning submission demonstrated how the entire team had brought the values of collaboration, forward thinking and, trust and integrity to life, delivering on of the organisation’s core purpose of harnessing the power of standards to help industry thrive and keep consumers informed and protected.

GS1 UK were also highly commended in three other categories. This included: 

  • Best use of data, AI or insight – Chatbot: Since launching in March 2022, GS1 UK’s AI powered chatbot has handled more than 27,000 chats, engaged with over 20,000 users and dealt with 33 per cent of enquiries outside of core office hours.
  • Best in person event of the year - GS1 UK Healthcare Conference: GS1 UK’s first live event since Covid-19 and the publication of the 2020 Scan4Safety evidence report returned on 17–18 March 2022 at the QEII Centre in Westminster. As our biggest conference to date, it featured more than 70 speakers across three stages who explored the key themes of patient safety, digital transformation and the significant potential of GS1 standards in shaping the future of care.
  • Best campaign on a shoestring – HFSS: On 15 March 2022, GS1 UK launched a large-scale campaign designed to inform both industry and consumers of the new High Fat Salt and Sugar (HFSS) legislation, its impact and to announce that we were leading the way in collaborating with industry to deliver a solution. As well as securing over 100 pieces of media coverage, this drove a significant increase in the use of our productDNA for HFSS solution, proving that when industry needs to find solutions to address challenges, collaboration gets it done.
